VERO BEACH — The woman who was reported missing since Sept. 26 has been found safe. Rachel Lynn Crenshaw was found in the early morning hours of Wednesday.
She met some new friends who apparently took her into their home outside the county, fed her and clothed her for more than two weeks, the Vero Beach Police Department said Wednesday.
Vero Beach Police Chief David Currey said the unnamed people gave Crenshaw a cellular phone and dropped her off Tuesday night near Wal-Mart on State Road 60.
Crenshaw, who was located by an officer on routine patrol in the McAnsh Park neighborhood at 3:43 a.m., was interviewed by detectives for about two hours.
During that interview, Currey said, Crenshaw said she went away “to get some distance” from her boyfriend and their turbulent relationship.
Police are not releasing Crenshaw’s whereabouts now, or at what locale she’s been for 17 days, but would only say she’s working “to get back on her feet.”
Currey said he is relieved Crenshaw was found safe and that detectives would be interviewing the people who gave Crenshaw shelter, and that they would also be taking a closer look at her estranged domestic relationship.
No one is being charged with any crimes at this point, Currey said.
