GIFFORD — A woman’s vehicle was struck by a bullet after she tried following the man who robbed her brother in the early morning hours of Friday, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. Thom Raulen said the male victim was sitting in his car near the intersection of 30th Avenue and 45th Street shortly after 4 a.m. when a man with a gun approached, demanding the victim’s wallet and jewelry.
While the two men scuffled, the victim’s sister arrived in her vehicle. The suspect fled with the victim’s wallet and jewelry and the sister attempted to pursue him in her vehicle, Sgt. Raulen said.
That’s when the suspect turned and fired a single round into the woman’s vehicle. She stopped her pursuit at that time, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities were called to the scene and were able to retrieve the victim’s wallet a few yards away from the scene. His identification and money were still in the wallet, Sgt. Raulen said.
The sister gave her vehicle to authorities so they could attempt to extract the bullet from the car. Sgt. Raulen said the vehicle is still being processed.
The suspect is described as a black male standing 5 feet 8 inches and having a full beard. He was wearing a white hat, a white shirt, and jeans. No age description was given.
The investigation remains active.
