GIFFORD — Authorities were called to a shooting in Gifford Tuesday night in the 2800 block of 45th Street around 10 p.m.
According to Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. Thom Raulen, no one was struck by flying bullets though at least one person was shot at.
Miranda Shaw, 32, of 1900 Woodland Cir., Gifford, was arrested in connection to the incident. She now faces charges including felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, felony carry concealed firearm, and misdemeanor discharging a firearm in public.
When police first made contact with Shaw, she said, “I was in fear for my life. I did it. The gun is on my front seat,” according to the arrest affidavit.
Shaw told authorities she was with her boyfriend at a residence on 45th Street when two people arrived at the home to pick up some belongings.
As the group was loading items into a vehicle, a verbal argument broke out, according to the arrest report.
Shaw said she fired one shot in the air because she was in fear for life, and thought the people were trying to “jump” her, the report shows.
The defendant’s boyfriend reported the two people, who were deemed to be the victims, were engaged in a dispute outside the residence when Shaw exited the home and also began exchanging profanity with the parties. He told authorities he advised Shaw to leave the property but she did not.
One of the victims reported she saw a red laser light pointed at her and asked Shaw if it was a taser. Shaw allegedly responded, “Hell no” and fired a shot in the direction of the two victims from approximately 5- to 6- feet away according to the report.
Shaw, the victims and another witness all told police that the verbal argument did not turn physical prior to the shot fired.
Police found a .380 caliber black metal semiautomatic hand gun containing six live rounds of ammunition in the magazine and one spent shell casing on the front passenger seat of Shaw’s vehicle.
Shaw is being held in lieu of $37,000 bond.
