Betty Jane Telford Replogle, 93, died at the home of her daughter, Rhonda Ross, on June 30, 2015. Betty was born in Baltimore, Md., to the late Peter and Jane Aldridge Telford on June 10th, 1922. She was raised in Akron and attended Akron University where she met her future husband of 66 years, Charles “Buzz” Replogle.
Betty loved education. She was always an excellent student loving history and thoughtful quotes. In college she majored in English and History preparing her to teach as many of her family members had done. She joined the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority and became its president. Eventually she started her teaching career in Boardman, Ohio and was an outstanding teacher developing many innovative programs such as the morning introduction and an exploration of World War II with veterans as speakers. In 1969 along with Bob Hope, she won the Freedom Foundation Award for promoting American values. Besides being a career woman, she was also a fine homemaker known for her pie making skills. She was a great mother, a caring friend, and an understanding wife.
Betty is survived by her sister, Jerry Musch formerly of Akron, Ohio, son, daughter, four grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. Her daughter is Rhonda Ross of Roswell, Georgia and Betty’s grandchildren are Travis and Brett Ross of Atlanta, Georgia. Betty’s son and his wife, Charles and Dianne Replogle reside in Poland, Ohio which is the home also of her granddaughter, Alicia, and her husband Ryan Williams with great grandchildren, Nate and Leanne. Granddaughter, Lori, and husband, James Van Rossem, live in Atlanta with Betty’s great grandchildren, Hanneh and Josh. Betty resided most of her life in Poland until she moved to Vero Beach, Florida later in life.
Betty will be laid to rest with her beloved husband, Charles “Buzz” Replogle at the Poland Cemetary, in Poland, Ohio.
