GIFFORD — After a man was discovered to been shot this morning in Gifford, warrants were served that uncovered drugs and guns.
Thursday afternoon, detectives with the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office served a search warrant in the 4400 block of 34th Court where multiple firearms and drugs were recovered, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Detectives located multiple weapons including a .22 caliber semi automatic handgun and a .380 caliber handgun. Detectives also located and seized more than200 grams of marijuana and 16.3 grams of unidentified pills.
Throughout the day, detectives spoke with multiple witnesses who refused to cooperate or say they saw anything, according to authorities. This evening, they will continue to search for witnesses who will be questioned.
The man who was shot and hospitalized early this morning in Gifford has been identified. Evidence recovered points to multiple calibers of shell casings with more than 10 confirmed gunshots being fired during the incident, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
The Indian River County Sheriff’s Office identified the injured man as 23-year-old Jarvis Hicks, who was shot around 4 a.m. Thursday in the 3400 block of 45th Street, in Gifford.
The Sheriff’s Office responded to calls reporting shots having been fired and discovered Hicks, who had been struck, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Indian River County Sheriff’s Detectives are tracking down witnesses who will be questioned this afternoon.
“We know that multiple people witnessed the events that occurred early this morning,” said Sheriff Deryl Loar. “We continue to ask for the community’s help to bring justice in this case and other recent events. It is a travesty of justice when people who know who committed these crimes refuse to help us.”
