James Whyte Houston, 72, Sebastian

James “Jim” Whyte Houston, 72, of Sebastian, passed away on June 1, 2015, at VNA Hospice House in Vero Beach.

He is survived by his wife Rebecca Houston; daughter Adriane Hudon of Sebastian; children, Jim Houston of Gainesville, Scott Houston of Knoxville, Tenn., Cindy Kangas of Knoxville, Tenn., and James Jordan Houston of Sebastian; 10 grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.

Houston was born in Newark, N.J. and moved to Sebastian eight years ago from Williston, Fla. He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Korea during the Vietnam War. He had been a police officer with the Metro Miami-Dade Sheriff Department. He retired in 1990 after 20 years of service.

He was a member of the VFW Post #10210 in Sebastian, the Treasure Coast Republican Club and the Retired Police Officer Association.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to VNA/Hospice Foundation, 1110 35th Lane, Vero Beach, Florida 32960. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m., Sunday, June 7, 2015 at the Strunk Funeral Home in Sebastian followed by the rendering of Military Honors by the Sebastian Area Veterans’ Honor Guard at 2 p.m. A guest book is available at www.strunkfuneralhome.com.
