INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A man has died in a lawn maintenance incident that led him to be trapped under water last week at Vista Plantation.
An Indiantown man crashed his riding lawn mower into a retention pond at Vista Plantation around 8:30 a.m. June 2, according to authorities. He was trapped underwater for an estimated 10 minutes.
People who work for Vista Plantation used a front-end loader and chain to move the lawn equipment and emergency personnel removed the victim. He was taken to Indian River Medical Center.
He died Saturday, according to the State Medical Examiner’s Office. The cause of death was listed as complications from drowning.
The victim was a temporary employee for Austin Outdoors in Port St. Lucie.
