Police: Man arrested for DUI, ran over woman

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A man was arrested for a DUI with priors Monday evening after he left an injured female passenger lying on the ground outside an emergency room at an area hospital, according to authorities.

Hospital staff responded immediately to the injured woman who later told police Jonathan Wilkie “ran her over” in a driveway. Wilkie then drove the victim to the hospital in a white Mercedes, left her on the ground, and sped away, according to the woman whose statement was partially corroborated by a witness at the hospital.

Authorities issued a BOLO (be on the lookout) for Wilkie and found him shortly after, headed west on 53rd Street, east of US 1.

Police conducted a DUI investigation and reported Wilkie smelled of alcohol, his speech was slurred, eyes were bloodshot, and he had trouble maintaining balance.

Wilkie denied running over the victim with his car and blamed visible damage to the vehicle on a previous crash, according to the arrest affidavit.

Wilkie, 68, of the 4700 block of 51st Court in Indian River County, now faces one misdemeanor charge of DUI with priors. He is being held in the Indian River County Jail in lieu of $1,000 bond.
