UPDATE: Drivers ID’d in morning garbage truck crash

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY —The drivers in this morning’s crash involving a garbage truck at the intersection of 4th Street and 43rd Avenue have been identified. 

A crash involving a Treasure Coast Refuse-Republic Services garbage truck and a pickup truck just before 6 a.m. Tuesday near the intersection of 4th Street and 43rd Avenue has now been cleared.

Laura Mann, 48, of Vero Beach, was driving a 2006 Ford F150, and Cornelius Gooden, 44, of Fort Pierce, was driving the 2007 Mack Garbage truck, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The F150 was traveling westbound on 4th Street approaching a flashing red light at the intersection of 43rd Avenue, according to FHP. The garbage truck was heading northbound approaching a yellow light.

Mann failed to stop at the flashing red light colliding with the garbage truck, according to FHP, and was cited for failing to stop at the red light.

The garbage truck ended up running into a tree and the pickup truck went partially into a ditch.

Jose Morales, 57, was a passenger in the garbage truck. He was not wearing a seat belt, according to the FHP report, and was ejected from the vehicle and transported to Lawnwood Trauma Center by helicopter.

Mann and Goodin were wearing seat belts, according to the report. Morales and Mann are listed in serious condition. Goodin sustained minor injuries from the crash.
