He is survived by his wife Stella Zopes; sons Michael (Jackie) Zopes and Peter Zopes; daughter Cathy (Don) Valente; grandchildren Jacob and Kayla Zopes, Mia and Elena Zopes and Noah Valente.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Vernon Zopes of Salt Lake City Utah who died in June of 2014.
Zopes was born July 4, 1935 in Mt. Vernon, N.Y. to the late Lorenz and Maria Zopes.
He joined the Air Force during the Korean conflict and served his country until June of 1956. In 1961 he married Stella Ingrisano in Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Brooklyn, N.Y., officiated by the bride’s uncle, the Rev. George Ingrisano.
His work had always been in the computer field. He was a systems analyst and traveled all over the United States and Europe. His last venture was an owner/operator of his own Mail Boxes Etc. store, (now known as the UPS Store) in Westchester County, N.Y.
In 2005, he and Stella retired to Vero Beach. Zopes was an avid shuffleboard enthusiast and enjoyed playing poker with “the guys.” He was a faithful member of St. Helen Catholic Church here in Vero and he loved the Lord.
He was extremely proud of his family, especially his grandchildren. He will be sorely missed by many friends in Vero Beach and up north.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at St. Helen Catholic Church. Interment and Military Honors will follow at Our Lady Queen of Peace Cemetery in Royal Palm Beach. Online condolences may be made at www.coxgiffordseawinds.com.
