INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The 10-year-old girl reported missing from Mississippi had been in the care of her aunt and uncle in Indian River County when her mother turned herself into authorities Tuesday night, according to the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office.
After seeing media coverage regarding the girl’s kidnapping, her aunt and uncle – identified as Lavetra Blue and Anthony Franklin – took 10-year-old Carmen Hudson to the lobby of the Indian River County jail.
Hudson was turned over to authorities unharmed and safe, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Detectives interviewed Hudson and her aunt and uncle Wednesday. Currently, neither Blue nor Franklin face charges.
The child has been placed into the custody of the Florida Department of Children and Family Services until she can be reunited with her father in Mississippi, according to authorities.
“We appreciate the assistance of everyone who shared in our search on social and traditional media, and in the community,” said Detective Sergeant Nancy McNally. “It is great to see that when it matters most, everyone comes together.”
