Mafalda “Maf” Rugen, of Vero Beach, passed away on Feb. 3, 2015, after a brief stay at VNA Hospice House in Vero Beach, in the loving company of her husband Dan and son Micahel.
She is survived by a loving family who will miss her terribly, including her husband Dan; son Michael (Jeannine Kay) of San Francisco, Calif.; grandsons Travis Kay Rugen (Madelyn Garza Rugen) and Jesse Kay-Rugen, who also live in the San Francisco Bay Area; sister Theresa and brother Raymond; and numerous nephews and nieces.
Rugen was born in Raritan, N.J., in 1925, the daughter of Joseph and Margaret Porcaro. She had five siblings: Dominic, Carmine, Theresa, Joseph and Raymond. She attended Somerville, N.J. High School and married Daniel L. Rugen of Bound Brook, N.J., in 1950.
She and Dan lived in Malone, N.Y., Trumbull, Conn., and Murray Hill, Gillette and Basking Ridge, N.J.
Rugen worked at Johns-Manville Corporation, where she met Dan, and at AFS Federal Credit Union. She and Dan retired to Vero Beach in 1991. For the past six years, they have lived at The Isles of Vero, where Rugen was beloved by all for her outgoing, energetic and loving ways. She was a faithful member of Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church in Vero Beach.
A celebration of her life will be held at The Isles of Vero, 1700 Waterford Drive, on Feb. 28, at 2 p.m.
