SEBASTIAN — A Boil Water Notice has been issued for a Sebastian neighborhood and 40 other water customers in the area of Barber Street and Layport Drive, including the Ashbury community, those on Salem Avenue, Briarcliff Circle, Briarcliff Court, and one each on Vocelle Avenue and Roy Avenue.
The notice was issued after a water main near that intersection broke Thursday night. Crews are working to repair the cracked pipe.
The Boil Water Notice is in effect until at least the morning of Monday, Jan. 12. The notice will be rescinded once water quality test results indicate the water is safe to drink.
Water should be brought to a rolling boil for at least one minute before being used for the following:
Upon restoration of water service, the Indian River County Utilities Department advises that all water used for the following be boiled (a rolling boil of one minute is sufficient):
- Drinking
- Cooking
- Making ice
- Brushing teeth
- Hand washing dishes
Bottled water may be used as an alternative.
Affected customers were directly notified by the County using the Integrated Voice Response System and a lit signage board posted the message at the front of the Ashbury community.
