Thaddeus H. Joos, 88, Vero Beach

Thaddeus H. Joos, 88, of Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich., and Vero Beach, passed away on Dec. 29, 2014, at HealthSouth Treasure Coast Rehabilitation Hospital in Vero Beach.

He is remembered as the beloved husband of Suzanne, with whom he was married for 60 years; loving father of Peter (Alla), Susan Leavy (Bernard) and Sarah (Nat Nichols); and adoring grandfather of Brigid, Nora and Kevin Leavy, and Cristina and Philip Joos.

A native of Detroit, Mich., Dr. Joos was the son of the late Herman and Mary Joos and brother of the late Nancy Bookmyer.

Dr. Joos is a graduate of the University of Detroit and the University of Michigan Medical School. He was a Pediatric Allergist, practiced in Grosse Pointe for 40 years and was on staff at St. John’s Hospital in Detroit.

He is a Past President of the Detroit Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics, a veteran of the Korean War and a volunteer at the Indian River County Health Department. He was a member of the Country Club of Detroit and The John’s Island Club in Vero Beach.

Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. at St. Paul on the Lake in Grosse Pointe Farms Saturday, Jan. 10, 2014, with visitation to precede the Mass. Local arrangements are entrusted to Strunk Funeral Home and Crematory, Vero Beach. A guest book is available at www.strunkfuneralhome.com.
