Sheila Woods, 88, of Vero Beach, passed away on Dec. 17, 2014.
She is survived by her husband Ervin Woods; her children John (Marsha) Woods, Dori Roy, and Amy Woods of Vero Beach, and David (Nancy) Woods, of Sycamore, Ill. Diane (Peter) Malmgren, of Waterman, Ill., and Andrew (Laura) Woods of Winfield, Ill.; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her daughter Melissa Woods.
Woods was born Dec. 2, 1926, in Southampton, England. She was the daughter of William H. Penniall and Doris Hawkins-Penniall. Her family came to the United States in1930 aboard the Leviathan, at New York harbor. They came to Winfield, Ill., where she attended a one-room public school.
Woods graduated West Chicago Community High School in 1944. She was a student at Northern Illinois University when she met Ervin Eugene Woods of Waterman, Ill., and they married on Aug. 30, 1946.
From 1965 to 1973, Woods was managing editor of the Waterman Enquirer weekly newspaper. From 1973 to 1976 she was editor of the Winfield Examiner. From 1976 to 1989 she was society editor of the Glen Ellyn News.
From 1989 to 2002 she was secretariat at the First United Methodist Church in Vero Beach.
Visitation will be at Cox-Gifford Seawinds Funeral Home, Friday, Dec. 19, from 4 to 6 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 20, at 2 p.m., at the First United Methodist Church, 1750 20th St., Vero Beach, FL 32960.
