INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Dr. Fran Adams, Superintendent of Schools, Indian River School District, will discuss the Common Core Curriculum at the Nov. 15 luncheon meeting of the Vero Beach Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW).

Common Core, a set of national education standards for K-12, continues to be a hotly debated topic, and in fact, has been somewhat amended in Florida and replaced by the Florida Standards. The Common Core initiative outlines the content and benchmarks in English-language arts and mathematics at each grade level and is linked to standardized testing of students’ academic achievement.
Dr. Fran Adams has been Superintendent of Schools since 2001; she previously served as Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction, and in other academic positions, starting out as an elementary teacher.
She also currently serves as Adjunct Professor in the Florida Atlantic University Master’s Program in Educational Leadership. As an expert in curriculum and instruction and one who is familiar with the Treasure Coast community, Dr. Adams can provide valuable insights into a controversial topic that will influence the future of education.
The event is sponsored by the Vero Beach Branch of the AAUW. For more information, contact Becki Manning, (772) 257-5703.
