INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Early morning Saturday around 5:30, a vehicle hit a person riding a bicycle south on 43rd Avenue, according to Florida Highway Patrol. That cyclist is in critical condition at Lawnwood Medical Center.

The vehicle in question is a possible older model Honda, according to FHP. It should have left front and side damage along with a missing driver side mirror and may have a shattered windshield.

Authorities do not know the color of the car but evidence collected suggests the vehicle could have some primer color along with teal or red paint from a previous paint job.

Tyler Delabruere, 31, of Vero Beach, is in critical condition at Lawnwood Medical Center after being hit by the Honda and being ejected off his bike, according to authorities. Delabruere was traveling in the center of the southbound lane when the vehicle approached from the rear. The vehicle attempted to avoid Delabruere by veering right.

The driver then fled the scene southbound, according to FHP. If anyone witnessed the crash or has information about the crash they are urged to contact FHP at (954) 837-4012.
