Shirley Graebert, 87, Vero Beach

Shirley Graebert, 87, of the Moorings in Vero Beach, passed away Nov. 4, 2014, at her home.

She is survived by her son Alan W. Graebert and niece, Bailey Wharton.

Graebert was born in Sewickley, Penn., and was the daughter of the late Arthur L. and Florence Woods Morrison. Growing up in the Pittsburgh area she met her husband Richard E. Graebert, who preceded her in death.

Together, Shirley and Richard moved to Bound Brook, N.J. in pursuit of Richard’s career with Union Carbide. There they had two sons William S. Graebert and Alan W. Graebert. As a family they also lived in Charleston, W.Va. and Ridgefield, Conn., until 1991.

For many years, the Graebert’s vacationed in Vero Beach. They moved to Vero full time in 1991 from Pittsburgh, Penn., which allowed her to be closer to her parents and sister who had moved to Vero in 1960.

She was of the Presbyterian faith and a faithful supporter of the arts, spending a great deal of time at the Vero Beach Museum of Art and attending many of its functions.

Memorial contributions may be made to Vero Beach Museum of Art, 3001 Riverside Park Drive, Vero Beach, FL 32963. A memorial service will take place at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to Strunk Funeral Home and Crematory, Vero Beach. A guest book is available at www.strunkfuneralhome.com.
