VERO BEACH — Two Rosewood Magnet Elementary School students, Matteo Iacono and Liam Ritchie, went before the Indian River County School Board on Tuesday evening with a presentation advocating that the school’s new parent pick-up access road be named “Dillon Drive” in honor of their beloved principal.
The Board approved the students’ request unanimously and commended Principal Deborah Dillon on her legacy at Rosewood.
“There is no greater honor than having students come forward wanting to recognize your efforts,” said Schools Superintendent Dr. Fran Adams.
Dillon took to the podium to thank her students and their parents, staff, administration, and the Board for their support during her 32 years with the School District and 15 years as Principal of Rosewood.
“I’m very humbled to have the students come forward and have them bestow this honor on me,” Dillon said. At Rosewood, Dillon added, “there is nothing that we do that is without the support of each other.”
Dillon will retire as principal in December of 2014.
