James W. Titelman, 88, of Vero Beach, passed away peacefully at home.
He is survived by his wife and grandchildren, Eric Bennett Falcone and Laura Elizabeth Falcone.
He was preceded in death by his only child, Elizabeth Titelman Falcone.
Titelman was born in Atlantic City, N.J. and lived in Hollidaysburg, Penn. before moving to Vero Beach in 1970. He graduated from Valley Forge Military Academy, Kings Point Merchant Marine Academy and after serving in WWII, completed his education at the University of Pennsylvania.
After a 25 year career with the family business, Puritan Sportswear, he decided he could have a lot more fun in the stock market and spent his remaining years as a private investor. Titelman was a long-time director of Mid-State Bank in Pennsylvania and the founding Vice President of the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art in Loretto, Penn.
One of his greatest joys in life was collecting art. He was very knowledgeable about art and was truly thrilled to have had the opportunity to donate the Titelman Gallery to the Vero Beach Museum of Art. He served on the museum’s Board of Directors for many years and especially enjoyed working on its permanent collection.
The family will receive friends at The Carlton Clubhouse from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 11. A burial service will be held in Pennsylvania at a later date. Donations in Titelman’s memory may be made to the Vero Beach Museum of Art, 3001 Riverside Park Drive, Vero Beach, FL 32963 or The Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art, PO Box 9, Loretto, PA 15940. Arrangements are under the direction of Strunk Funeral Home and Crematory, Vero Beach. A guest book is available at www.strunkfuneralhome.com.
