John Lemasters III, 81, of Vero Beach, passed away on Aug. 20, 2014.
He is survived by his son Craig Lemasters (Dr. Laurel); daughter Lindi Lewis (Jan Lawrence); grandchildren Will and Drew Lewis, and Steven, Kerry Anna, David and Corrie Lemasters; brother Steve Lemasters (Aloma); step-mother Shelby Lemasters; and four nieces.
Lemasters was born on Aug. 3, 1933, in Akron, Ohio, to the late Helen (nee Crosby) and John N. Lemasters II. He grew up in the Ocala, Fla. area where he attended high school. He went on to graduate from Georgia Institute of Technology in 1958. During the Korean War, he served in the Army as an instructor.
His professional career spanned over 40 years, in which he was President and CEO of Contel in Atlanta, Ga., and Computer Products in Boca Raton. Before that he was Vice President of Harris Corp. in Melbourne, where he started the Satellite Communications Division. After retirement, he served on the board of several communication companies.
He was an active member of Christ By The Sea United Methodist Church in Vero Beach where he played clarinet in the church orchestra. His hobbies included golf and piloting his airplane. In later years, he traded his airplane cockpit for his home flight simulator.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Christ By The Sea Music Ministry, 3755 Highway A-1-A, Vero Beach, Florida 32963.
A memorial service celebrating his life will begin at 2 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 24, at Christ By The Sea United Methodist Church in Vero Beach. A reception will follow.
