Anna M. Mattern, 86, of Vero Beach, passed away on July 25, 2014, in her home surrounded by her loving family.
She was the wife of Donald E. Mattern, mother to Debra Mattern Kephart, Cynthia Ann Mattern (Douglas K. Miscikowski), and James F. Mattern (Karen P.); and loving grandmother of Matthew J. Kephart (Michelle Kotwas), Abigail S. Mattern, and Benjamin J. Mattern.
She was predeceased by her two brothers Robert and Max Bard.
Mattern was born in Mt. Union, Penn., and was the daughter of the late Marshall M. and Naomi M. (Hileman) Bard.
She graduated from Mt. Union High School, in Pennsylvania in 1945 and The Pennsylvania Hospital School of Nursing, Philadelphia, Penn., in 1949. Following graduation, she was a rural school nurse for Huntingdon Co. School District, Pennsylvania, caring for students at 22 one-room schools.
She married Donald E. Mattern on Nov. 24, 1951.
Mattern loved spending time with her family and traveling with her husband. They enjoyed their retirement years at the Highlands of Wyomissing, Penn. and in Vero Beach.
An avid duplicate bridge player, she cherished the friendships of her fellow bridge players for more than 40 years. A 50 year member of Advent Lutheran Church in Pennsylvania, and an associate member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, Vero Beach, she loved her Lutheran family.
A Memorial Service was held July 29, at Advent Lutheran Church, West Lawn, Penn.
