VERO BEACH — The Vero Beach City Council approved a new schedule of fees for City Recreation programs on a final 5-0 vote.
City Manager Jim O’Connor said the fee restructuring is part of an ongoing effort to make the most of the City’s recreation budget.
“Some have been raised and some have been lowered in an attempt to take advantage of economies of scale to encourage more people to participate in those activities,” O’Connor said.
A large percentage of the people who use City recreation programs, a full two-thirds or more in some cases, are not City residents but Indian River County residents.
The Recreation Department is funded via Vero Beach’s general fund revenues, the majority of which are derived from electric, water and sewer department revenue and customers outside the City pay into those funds.
