Sebastian Council to partner with Historical Society on museum

SEBASTIAN — The Sebastian City Council Wednesday evening approved a memorandum of understanding with the Indian River County Historical Society to develop the Working Waterfront Fisherman’s Landing Museum and Exhibit Center.

Since the start of the Working Waterfront project, the City of Sebastian has been working on establishing a museum inside what was once Hurricane Harbor and is now home to Crab-E Bill’s Indian River Seafood on Indian River Drive.

Now that the fish market and eatery are operational at Crab-E Bill’s, focus is on the museum and talks have taken place concerning the possibility of a curator, during which it was determined that the Indian River County Historical Society is the suitable entity to “lend their curator expertise to the project,” according to the City.

The organization accepted the City’s request to participate and agreed to include the museum in its request for grant funds from the Tourist Development Council, an action endorsed by the Sebastian River Area Chamber of Commerce.

To date, the City has received $15,500 in charitable contributions for museum development.
