VERO BEACH — Join Flametree Gallery on Friday, April 4, from 5 to 8 p.m., during the monthly First Friday Gallery Stroll, for the opening of “The Art of Ikebana” – the art of Japanese flower arranging.
Learn about the meditative, elegant art of Japanese flower arranging from Elaine Siegler, a talented Ikebana artist trained in the Sogetsu School of Ikebana, and Jeannette Waltz, interior decorator, teacher and student of Ikebana.
Siegler is from Ottawa, Canada, where she serves as second vice president of Ikebana International Ottawa centennial Chapter 120.
The Sogetsu School of Ikebana follows the principles that Ikebana can be created and enjoyed anywhere, at anytime, anyplace with any materials.
During the winter months Elaine calls Vero Beach home and has participated in Art in Bloom and has led workshops and created unique floral arrangements in the area.
Waltz became interested in Ikebana when she realized her customers wanted and needed beautiful floral arrangements in their homes. She learned many techniques of floral design and eventually discovered Ikebana, a more natural, peaceful way of floral placement.
During her demonstration Jeannette intends to show visitors how to choose the correct Ikebana container for simple, peaceful arrangements.
On opening night both ladies will demonstrate this form of flower arranging in the new Ikebana containers created by Flametree artists especially for this event.
The exhibit continues through the end of the month during regular gallery hours.
