VERO BEACH — The City of Vero Beach has been named a 2013 Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation in honor of its commitment to effective urban forest management. This is the 33rd year Vero Beach has earned the national designation.
Vero Beach achieved Tree City USA recognition by meeting the program’s four requirements: a tree board, a tree-care ordinance, an annual community forestry budget of at least $2 per capita, and an Arbor Day observance and proclamation.
Cleaner air, improved storm water management, energy savings, and increased property values and commercial activity are among the benefits enjoyed by Tree City USA communities.
On April 25 at 10 a.m. the City of Vero Beach and the Vero Beach Tree and Beautification Commission will be planting a tree at Charles Park, located at 15th Street and 24th Avenue, to commemorate Arbor Day.
The Vero Beach City Council has been invited to participate and all interested parties are welcomed to attend this Arbor Day celebration.
