INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Youth Guidance has announced the success of its inaugural “Help Us Level The Playing Field” breakfast held at the Quail Valley River Club on March 25, which raised more than $25,000 in gifts and pledges.
It was attended by more than 90 community members who came out to support and learn about the 40-year-old mentoring program.
The breakfast was a culmination of the Youth Guidance tours that commenced in August of 2013. The outreach tours were held monthly and attended by the community. They were a vehicle to get the Youth Guidance message out, share mentor success stories and tell about the newest activities and mentoring programs Youth Guidance is offering the children.
Current and past mentors and mentees presented at the breakfast and gave heartfelt stories about their time in the Youth Guidance program.
The new Youth Guidance video was unveiled to give individuals an even greater understanding of the importance of mentoring and of being involved with such a significant program.
The mission of Youth Guidance, a United Way partner agency, is to empower Indian
River County’s neediest youth through mentoring relationships, and broaden their horizons with educational, cultural and recreational opportunities.
The agency is actively seeking volunteers to serve as mentors or periodic volunteers to participate in the variety of group mentoring programs and ongoing activities for children enrolled in the program, or to provide regular help in the office.
Youth Guidance is also looking for partnerships with businesses, service clubs and church groups to pair with children for just one activity a year.
