Vero Beach Police arrest 2 trying to steal boat

VERO BEACH — The intended victim woke to two men attempting to steal her husband’s boat and trailer in the 1500 block of 14th Court, according to the Vero Beach Police Department.

Curtis Brown, 52, and Stephen Puchalski, 58, were arrested during a theft of the boat around 2:30 p.m., according to authorities.

The wife of the owner saw the two men later identified the men, according to the report. The victim immediately called the police. When they arrived they stopped their truck before the driver could leave the residence with the boat.

Puchalski was driving and Brown was in the passenger seat, according to police. Brown had approached the owner two weeks ago. The owner told him he could sell the boat for $500. Brown told him he would return and buy the boat. He never returned to make the purchase. The owner said Brown never gave him any money for the boat.

Puchalski and Brown face a charge of grand theft. Puchalski is being held on $12,500 bond, and Brown on $5,000. They are both still being held at the Indian River County Jail.
