Fire consumes barrier island home

INDIAN RIVER SHORES — A two-story home at 710 Canoe Trail in Indian River Shores that sold for $1.15 million in 2005 suffered considerable damage but is still standing, according to Indian River County Fire Department’s Cory Richter.

No injuries were sustained from the fire as the owners were away at the time, according to authorities. The owners are Michael and Darlene Courtney, according to the Indian River County Appraiser’s website.

Indian River Shores first responded with its engine then called for two more engines to back them up, according to Richter. After that, the Indian River County Fire Rescue crew called for two more engines.

The fire is still being monitored but is under control at this time, according to authorities. The investigation to determine the cause is ongoing.
