Richard S. Rogers, 89, Sebastian

Richard S. Rogers, 89, of Sebastian, passed away Tuesday, March 11, 2014, in Gainesville, Fla. A native of Abilene, Kansas, Richard moved to Sebastian in 1987 from Miami.

Richard worked for Capp Custom Builders and MGB Homes as a draftsman and left his mark on many local homes and businesses in Sebastian. He was a US Navy veteran of WWII who participated in Operation Torch, the invasion of North Africa in November 1942.

He was an early member of GMRA(Greater Miami Racing Association) and designed the layout of the Hialeah Speedway in the 1950s. He enjoyed watching automobile racing, antique cars and old engines. He was devoted to his dog, Abbey, and his grand-dogs.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Elizabeth G. Rogers.

He is survived by his son, Theodore (Brenna) Rogers; step-grandson: Ryan Gibbs; sister-in-law, Anne Goldy; three nephews, Robert and Scott Goldy and Roger Peterson.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name to Haven Hospice of Gainesville, Fla.
