Roy Preston Schick Jr., 80, of Vero Beach, passed away on Jan. 31, 2014.
Schick is survived by his wife, Mary; his brother, Jerry Joe Schick; sister-in-law, Anna Smith Johnson; children, Lori Schick Kavanagh (Bill), David Crandall Schick, and Sharon Schick Card (Bill); three grandsons, Wallace Card, Will Kavanagh, and Tucker Kavanagh; two great-grandsons, Caleb and Hunter.
Schick was born in Oklahoma City, Okla., the son of Blanche and Roy Schick, Sr. He moved to Vero Beach with his family in 1947. He attended Vero Beach High School, Class of 1951, and then graduated from the University of Florida in 1955. He married Mary Frances Smith, of Vero Beach, in 1956.
After two years of military service as a financial auditor in Atlanta, Ga., and Honolulu, Hawaii, Roy and Mary returned to Vero Beach where they have worked, raised their family, been active in the community and grown beautiful roses.
He lived and loved every day of his life. He was always willing to lend a helping hand, and share his love of The Lord as well as his beautiful roses. He will be deeply missed by his loving family and many dear friends.
A memorial service to celebrate Schick’s life will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014, at 10:30 a.m., at Christ Church Vero Beach, 925 14th Lane, where he was one of the four founding fathers. If you wish, the family would appreciate donations made in his honor to the Christ Church Vero Beach Building Fund in lieu of flowers.
