G. Digby Lafferty, 84, of Vero Beach, passed away on Feb. 15, 2014.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Pownall Nick; five children, Elizabeth Woodman, George D., David B., Andrew A., and Laura Kneedler; sister Donna Beasley; and twelve grandchildren.
He was born Sept. 6, 1929, in Altoona, Penn., the son of J. Donald and Katherine (Leamer) Lafferty.
He married Elizabeth Francis Biddle of Hollidaysburg, Penn., on June 23, 1951. She died Jan. 21, 1993. In 2000, he married Patricia Pownall Nick of Vero Beach.
He was a 1947 graduate of Lawrenceville School and attended Washington & Lee University.
During the Korean War he served in the U.S. Army and attended the Language Institute in Monterey, Cal., where he became fluent in Russian. He served as an Army Intelligence Officer in Washington D.C.
He was president of Lafferty Trucking Co. 1965 to 1987. He served on the Board of Trustees of Altoona Hospital and as Board Chair from 1974 to 1979.
He enjoyed golf, fly fishing, and spending time socializing with friends and family. He will be remembered for his wit and sense of humor.
A Memorial Service will be held for the immediate family. In Digby’s memory, contributions may be made to the Gifford Youth Activity Center.
