Sebastian Council unanimously approves playground equipment, Police needs

SEBASTIAN — A list of consent items were unanimously approved by Sebastian City Council at the Wednesday evening meeting, including new playground equipment and sidearms for Sebastian Police officers.

Lake Mary, Fla.- based company Playworx Playsets was approved to install the Schumann Park Playground at a price tag of $18,336. Playworx submitted the lowest bid on the project.

The Council also approved funds to replace and upgrade issued sidearms for the Sebastian Police Department. The police department will purchase supplies from B&H Police Supply as well as Law Enforcement Supply in the amounts of $6,760 and $4,333 respectively.

In official documents presented to Council, the Sebastian Police Department reported magazine malfunctions, miss feeds and double feeds, and accuracy of officers as problems caused by existing equipment.

Additionally, the City Council unanimously approved the expenditures of forfeiture funds in the amount of $11,000 for the Sebastian Police Department to purchase a Capers Appliance through Intelligent Solutions. According to official documents, the purchase is necessary for the department to meet requirements for its new records management and computer aided dispatch systems by Feb. 1.

Council also approved the 2013 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Grant application process in which the Sebastian Police Department was awarded $3,878. According to the provided memorandum, the department purchased two computer based programs for the 911 center with the aid of the awarded grant monies.

Finally, council agreed to accept a $4,024 insurance settlement for a damaged police vehicle. Council agreed to keep the damaged car for used parts and to auction at a later date.
