INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A strong storm is moving across the southern plains this morning into the western Gulf of Mexico today, according to Indian River County Emergency Management.
This storm will slowly intensify and move across the Florida panhandle through the day on Tuesday. Then it will head into the mid-Atlantic region by daybreak Wednesday. This system will bring a strong cold front into the Florida peninsula late Tuesday night and exiting the state by midday Wednesday.
There is an increased potential for thunderstorms with locally damaging straight line winds. Brief tornadoes, while unlikely, cannot be completely ruled out either.
The maximum impact potential for east central Florida will occur between early Tuesday afternoon through daybreak Wednesday morning.
Wednesday forecast: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 11 a.m., then a chance of showers and thunderstorms between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., then a slight chance of showers after 3 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 77. Windy, with a west wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
Wednesday night forecast: A 10 percent chance of showers before 7 p.pm. Partly cloudy, with a low around 48. Windy, with a west northwest wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.
Thanksgiving Day Forecast: Much colder temperatures are expected with low temperatures dropping into the 40s in many locations by daybreak Thanksgiving morning. The rest of the day will be mostly sunny, with a high near 69. North wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.
