FELLSMERE — The Fellsmere City Council will retain the same leadership it has had for the last several years, with Susan Adams serving as Mayor, Joel Tyson serving as Vice Mayor, and Fernando Herrera serving as Mayor Pro-Tem.
Adams and fellow Councilwoman Sara Savage were sworn in Thursday night during the regular Council meeting, having kept their seats on the dais without opposition in what would have been the city’s election.
With no challengers, no election was needed.
“You all are stuck with us for another two years,” Adams said as she returned to her seat after the official swearing in.
Tyson nominated Adams to continue on as the city’s Mayor.
“Thank you for the vote of confidence,” she said in response.
Adams has served as Fellsmere’s Mayor since 2008, following one year as a council member.
“It’s an honor that they feel that I can serve them in that way,” Adams said after the Council meeting. “I enjoy representing the city.”
When it came time to nominate a council member for Vice Mayor, Sara Savage asked, “Joel, you up to it?”
“I think so,” Tyson responded.
With no other nominations, Tyson was unanimously selected.
Councilman Herrera, who was absent from the meeting, was also chosen unanimously to serve as Mayor Pro-Tem.
“Fernando has been doing a great job of that for the last 15 years,” Tyson said in nominating Herrera.
“This is what Fernando gets for not coming to the meeting!” Adams teased.
