Doyle Franklin McCullers, 76, died along with his wife of 56 years, Narcia McCullers, as a result of an automobile accident, on Sept. 25, 2013, in Vero Beach.
McCullers was born in Winter Beach and has been a lifetime resident of Indian River County.
He was a graduate of Fellsmere High School Class of 1956.
McCullers worked in the experimental design department at Piper Aircraft Corporation for 31 years.
After his time at Piper, he went on to have another career with Estes Citrus in Vero Beach until his retirement in 2000.
McCullers was an active member of King’s Baptist Church, Vero Beach, where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher.
Survivors include sons, Steve McCullers, of Panama City Beach and David McCullers, of Vero Beach; daughters, Donna Mattingly (Andrew), of New Albany, Ind., Brenda Kmetz (Michael), of Vero Beach and Peggy Goff (Kevin), of Tallahassee; granddaughters, Jennifer Kmetz (Cory Suter), of Orlando, and Samantha Kmetz, of Vero Beach; and grandson, Brandon Kmetz, of Vero Beach.
McCullers was preceded in death by his father, Elbert Franklin McCullers, mother, Sallie Kate Journigan and stepfather Horace Journigan.
Memorial contributions may be made to King’s Baptist Church building fund in memory of Mr. McCullers.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013, at Strunk Funeral Home, Vero Beach.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 29, 2013 at King’s Baptist Church, Vero Beach with Rev. Frank Ellis officiating.
