Halsey P. Hunt Jr., 94 of Vero Beach, died on Aug. 7, 2013.
Born in Newark, N.J. to Lillian (nee Rudolph) Hunt and Halsey P. Hunt, he grew up in Montclair & Bloomfield graduating from Bloomfield High School and earning the coveted designation of Eagle Scout, winning the Golden Eagle award.
He then enlisted in the Army during World War II.
He rose to the rank of captain in the pacific theatre while directing Naval fire from the front lines in Okinawa and many other engagements.
After returning from the war, he worked in sales at Bambergers and then sales management in the freight transportation industry where he spent his career.
Halsey married Grace E. Hunt.
They enjoyed 65 blissful years of marriage, raising 4 sons in their 35 years in Pompton Lakes, N.J. and then retiring to Toms River, N.J., and Vero Beach.
Halsey was a member of the Free Masons, North Jersey Traffic Club, Christ Church (Pompton Lakes) Vestry & the Pompton Lakes First Aid Squad.
Survivors include his sons Halsey (III) & wife Joanne(nee Hart) of Pompton Plains, N.J., Roy and his wife Lorraine(nee Dumler), of Vero Beach, Gary & his wife Eileen(nee Schnaidt), of Bayville, N.J., and Jeffrey & his wife Marie (nee Coda), of Pompton Plains; 10 grandchildren & 13 great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by Grace in 2007.
To celebrate Hunt’s life, Roy & Lorraine will be welcoming family & friends to their home on Saturday, Aug. 17 from 2 to 4 pm.
