FORT PIERCE — Save the Chimps will host its second semi-annual “Member Day” event on Sept. 21. “Members” from across the country have an opportunity to tour the world’s largest chimpanzee sanctuary to catch a glimpse of nearly 300 chimpanzee residents.
The sanctuary is typically closed to the public so the chimpanzees can enjoy their lives in a peaceful environment. “Member Day” is the only opportunity for people to tour the 150-acre sanctuary.
“We created ‘Member Day’ as a way to connect to the people who are dedicated to supporting our mission and give them an opportunity to witness firsthand how their generosity benefits our chimpanzee residents.
The community has been very supportive of our work, and each event since its launch in 2012 has been a success,” said Save the Chimps Director of Communications Triana Romero.
Save the Chimps will be open to all current 2013 members or who become members at the $50 Enthusiast level. Guided walking tours of the sanctuary grounds will begin at 11 a.m. through 3 p.m.; however, reservations are required in advance to secure a time slot.
Space is limited.
The walking tour covers 1.25 miles of the expansive 150-acre sanctuary in Fort Pierce. Members will observe the chimpanzees as they roam the islands of grass, palm trees, hills, and climbing structures that allow the chimps to run and play, visit with friends, find a quiet corner to relax, bask in the sun, or curl up in the shade.
If you are not yet a member of Save the Chimps, there is still an opportunity to join and register for this rare glimpse of sanctuary life.
Please visit www.SaveTheChimps.org/MemberDay to become a member and reserve a tour time.
