Driver speeds through Vero Beach at 95 mph

VERO BEACH — A Vero Beach woman was clocked on 20th Street going 95 mph, according to the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office.

Karis Campbell, 22, was seen driving eastbound Sunday morning around 3 a.m. at the 8000 block on 20th Street by authorities.

Campbell was visually estimated by the Sheriff’s Office traveling at a speed of 95 mph in a two-door Chrysler Sebring in a 45 mph posted speed zone, according to authorities. The Sheriff’s vehicle activated its lights and siren and Campbell failed to stop.

Once the vehicle stopped at the 1600 block of 20th Street, Campbell was told to shut her car off, according to authorities. Campbell shut off the car, took her foot off the brake, then the car rolled forward three feet.

Campbell had a strong odor of alcohol coming from her breath when she spoke, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

“Obviously everyone can see I’m intoxicated,” said Campbell during the traffic stop, according to authorities.

Campbell had a blood alcohol level or .209 and .204. She faces charges of driving under the influence, unlawful speed, and fleeing and eluding law enforcement.
