GIFFORD — A Gifford woman has been arrested for allegedly stabbing another woman that she had “not liked for a long time,” according to the Indian River Sheriff’s Office.
Doris Knowles, 45, faces charges of attempted felony murder that occurred Saturday in front of Mosley’s convenience store, according to the affidavit.
Outside the store, the victim and Knowles started fighting, according to authorities. The fight started after the victim “bumped her with her purse as she walked inside the store.”
Knowles stated that the victim started the fight by punching her in the face. At one point, during the fight, Knowles ran at the victim with a knife and stabbed the victim in the neck.
Knowles claimed to have never stabbed her and “does not know how she would have that wound.”
In the Sheriff’s report, Knowles stated that she gave her bloody shirt to some friends and believe they may have “returned it to her aunties’ house.”
The victim stated that they have argued over the years and have dated some of the same people, according to authorities.
The store owner witnessed a knife in Knowles’ hand and told her to leave his property, according to the Sheriff’s Office. He said they argue a lot and he’s had to tell them to quiet down over the years.
After they were separated, Knowles left the scene, the victim was taken to Lawnwood Regional Hospital for treatment, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Knowles is being held on $75,000 bond.
