Joseph Steinitz, 103, Vero Beach

Joseph Steinitz, 103, died July 6, 2013, at Sterling House in Vero Beach.

He was born in Newark, N.J., and lived in Vero Beach since the 1950s, coming from Englishtown, N.J.

He was a veteran of the Army, having served in the Pacific Theatre during World War II.

He was the owner of Carlin and Steinitz Plumbing Supplies in Piscataway, N.J., and later became a grove owner in Vero Beach until 1980.

He was a member of St. Helen Catholic Church, Vero Beach; Rotary clubs in Vero Beach and South Plainfield, N.J.; and the Vero Beach Opera.

Survivors include his daughter, Frances Harrison of Vero Beach; and one grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Kathryn Steinitz in 2002; brothers, John Steinitz, Frank Steinitz and Lawrence “Happy” Steinitz; and one grandson.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. July 11 at Cox Gifford Seawinds Funeral Home.

A Mass of Christian burial will be at 2 p.m. July 12 at St. Helen Catholic Church followed by interment at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Fort Pierce.
