Carl Arthur Smith, 85, Vero Beach

Carl Arthur Smith, 85, died May 21, 2013, at Indian River Medical Center in Vero Beach.

He was born in Pulaski, N.Y., and lived in Vero Beach for 15 years, coming from Port St. Lucie.

He had been an administrator for the Veterans Affairs in Washington, D.C.

He was a member of the Moose Lodge of Buckhead Ridge, Eagles Lodge of Vero Beach and the Vero Beach Vets.

Survivors include his wife, Patsy J. Smith, of Vero Beach; daughters, Dianne Antonielli, of Edgewater, Md., and Kaye Summerall and Wanda Schlitt, both of Vero Beach; son, David Powell, of Vero Beach; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Naomi Smith; son, Buddy Higdon; and seven brothers and sisters.

Memorial contributions may be made to the VNA/Hospice Foundation, 1110 35th Lane, Vero Beach, FL 32960.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. May 24 at the Strunk Funeral Home in Vero Beach.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. May 25 at the funeral home, with a graveside service at 2 p.m. at Forest Hills Memorial Gardens in Palm City.
