County Commission approves $70,000 jobs grant for security firm

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A security firm currently based in Carlsbad, Calif., will be moving its headquarters to Indian River County after the Board of County Commissioners Tuesday voted to support a $70,000 jobs grant for the company.

The firm, Next Level Security Systems, plans to provide 10 jobs to start, all of which will pay more than the county’s average annual salary of $34,119. The company plans to hire eight software engineers with an annual salary of $80,000 each. There will be a vice president of sales and a director of marketing, who will earn $200,000 and $100,000, respectively.

Next Level Security Systems is a physical security company that provides networked security solutions, according to its application to the county for the jobs grant.

The company has not yet found a site for its headquarters.

The county will pay out the $70,000 over the course of three years and only if the county can demonstrate that it has indeed hired the number of employees at the established salaries set forth in the application.

County Economic Development Director Helene Caseltine told commissioners that the company was interested in Indian River County because of the county’s more favorable business climate – compared to that of southern California.

Commissioner Peter O’Bryan suggested to Rob Tucker, the company’s vice president of sales, that he reach out to fellow businesses in southern California and encourage them to make the move and “head east young man.”

Commissioner Wesley Davis told his fellow board that one question he often fields from businesses looking to relocate to Florida has to do with hurricanes.

“You get plenty of warning,” Davis said. “You can’t run from an earthquake.”
