Celebrate Law Week April 29 through May 3

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Law Day is on May 1. The Indian River County Lawyers Auxiliary is partnering with the Indian River County Bar Association in placing attorneys and judges in classrooms throughout the county during Law Week, which will be celebrated April 29 through May 3.

The Law Week program provides age appropriate lesson plans as well as local attorneys or judges who are available to visit classrooms.

Law Day is a national day set aside to celebrate the Rule of Law and underscores how law and the legal process have contributed to the freedoms Americans share. This year’s theme is “Realizing the Dream: Equality for All.”

The promise of equality under the law is what has made America a beacon to other nations. It is a pledge clearly set forth in the Declaration of Independence and in the opening words of the Preamble of the Constitution, “We the People.” It is, in the words of Abraham Lincoln, the proposition to which our nation is dedicated.

This year we have had an overwhelming response from local schools wanting to participate.

Ann Catchick, President of IRCLA, has provided the following information regarding participation in this year’s activities:

1. 46 attorneys participating

2. 4 judges participating

3. 23 schools served

4. 94 classrooms visited

5. Approximately 2,300 children served
