VERO BEACH — The students of Oslo Middle School Art Instructor Harvey Kornicks have created an exciting array of art from recycled/repurposed items, which will be on display at the Indian River Habitat Home Center ReStore during the Earth Week Celebration, April 22-27, according to ReStore General Manager Sheradi Monroe.
The clever project had its genesis when Monroe spotted Kornicks browsing in the Home Center. She noticed he had a lot, 20-30, ceiling fan blades, and asked what he had in mind for so many.
“How many ceiling fans could he have?” Monroe wondered.
As it turned out, Kornicks was seeking random materials for his art class to paint.
The conversation that ensued resulted in a Home Center ReStore Earth Week event: ReCycle, ReStore, ReUse, in which Kornicks and his students were invited to participate by submitting their art work using Home Center ReStore materials.
The event will feature an art display and silent auction of works the students have created with materials provided almost entirely from the Home Center.
The diverse pieces fall into five broad categories: Space Coast, Solar Systems; Vero Seascapes; Florida Flora and Fauna; Modern/Urban/Fresh; and Teen Texting.
The art supplies were donated by Kornicks and his wife, Margot.
The students have created around 60 artworks, using such diverse materials as ceiling fan blades, tile, table tops, lamp shades, cabinet doors, even surf boards, to name a few.
The “recycled” art will be on display in the Habitat Home Center ReStore, located at 4580 N. US 1 in Vero Beach, starting at 9 a.m. Monday, April 22, and continuing through the week.
Bidding will take place all week during store hours, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and will close at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 27. Between 1 and 2 p.m. on the 27th, sealed bids will be accepted, and winning bidders will be announced starting at 2 p.m.
The public is cordially invited to visit the Home Center ReStore, especially during Earth Week, not only for the usual great stuff and super bargains, but also to enjoy the creative talents of Kornicks’ students and, possibly, to find an original work of student art to take home.
