Engines revved and ran on all cylinders during the 15th annual Wheels and Keels Charity Fundraising Weekend at the Moorings Yacht and Country Club to benefit the Wheels and Keels Foundation. A Disco Vibes & Groovy Rides-themed Live Auction Dinner on Friday night fueled the weekend. Guests gathered in the Governors Lounge to mingle over cocktails and visit with representatives of the ever-expanding number of charities supported by the foundation, each of which focus on improving the lives of children and adults in the area. Grants are now provided to 14 local nonprofits: The Arc of Indian River County, Crossover Mission, Float Hope, Hibiscus Children’s Center, Lines in the Lagoon, Music Angels Education Fund, Navy SEAL Trident House, Sally Wilkey Foundation, Sebastian River Rowing, Special Equestrians of the Treasure Coast, the Senior Resource Association’s Meals on Wheels program, United Against Poverty’s Crisis Stabilization program, Vero Beach Rowing, and the Youth Sailing Foundation of Indian River County. “We help organizations that help people and children,” said Sam Gagliano, current W&K board president, as he welcomed guests. “That’s the cornerstone of our charter. “We all know it takes a lot to help, especially serious helping. So, that’s why we’re here tonight. To have fun with an auction and conversation. We introduced you to the people we work with daily. Over the last 15 years, we’ve given dozens and dozens of these charities grants and funding for their programs,” he added. Then on Saturday, folks turned out in droves for the annual car and boat show. Whether their preferred mode of travel was by land or by sea, there was something for everyone to ooh and ahh over. Judging classes included everything from antique and exotic cars, to hot rods and race cars for the wheel enthusiasts, and a selection of yachts and trailered boats for the keel aficionados. Chrome gleamed, and wood shone under the beautiful sunny sky, as viewers marveled at the vehicles positioned along the Pete Dye Signature Golf Course and at the boats moored at the nearby docks. Since its inception, the two-day event has donated more than $800,000 to local charities. For more information, visit WKVero.com. Photos by Joshua Kodis [gallery ids="218983,218984,218985,218986,218987,218988,218989,218990,218991,218992,218993,218994,218995,218996,218997,218998,218999,219000,219001,219002,219003,219004,219005,219006,219007,219008,219009,219010,219011,219012,219013"]
