SafeSpace announces John Walsh as host of event

VERO BEACH — SafeSpace is pleased to announce that TV personality, criminal investigator, and human rights activist John Walsh will be the keynote speaker at the organization’s 2013 Every Woman is My Sister event.

The event will take place on March 23 at 5:30 p.m. at The Club at Pointe West in Vero Beach.

Every Woman is My Sister is hosted annually to benefit SafeSpace, a local nonprofit organization and the only domestic violence outreach center on the Treasure Coast.

In addition to providing victims of domestic violence with emergency shelter, SafeSpace offers education and support for families through its various outreach programs.

Every Woman is My Sister will feature a cocktail hour and meet-and-greet, dinner, and presentation by John Walsh. Tickets are $150 per person and can be purchased by contacting SafeSpace at (772) 223-2399.

“We are thrilled to have John Walsh as our keynote speaker this year. In addition to being internationally known as the host of America’s Most Wanted, he is also known for the significant impact he has made as a human and victim’s rights advocate,” said SafeSpace CEO Jill Borowicz.

Past keynote speakers have included Victor Rivas Rivers, Denise Brown of The Nicole Brown Foundation and sister of the late Nicole Brown Simpson, and last year’s speaker Dr. Stephanie Haridopolos, a former domestic violence victim and current advocate of protective services for domestic violence victims.

In the last fiscal year, SafeSpace served nearly 1,000 victims and their children and provided more than 13,000 safe nights of service to women and their children.

SafeSpace operates two 24-bed emergency shelters in Martin and Indian River Counties, and offers counseling as well as legal and children’s advocacy to victims and their dependents.

Sponsors and partners for the event include George E. Warren Corporation, Molly Maid of the Treasure Coast, MicroTech Systems, Wilmington Trust, Indian River Medical Center, Frank & Janet Kelly, Kelly Integral Solutions, AIDS Research and Treatment Center of the Treasure Coast, Facial Rejuvenation of FL Dr. Gerald Pierone, and Tom & Diane Mahan.
