Hayden Mathews, 82, of Vero Beach and Stamford, Conn. died on Dec. 27, 2012, in Chevy Chase, Md.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 49 years, Elizabeth (Betsy) Mathews.
He was the father of Alexander Mathews, and his wife Katie; Adam Mathews, and his wife Cherie; and Betsy Prezioso and her husband Giovanni; and grandfather of Ashley and Adam Mathews and Emily, Julia and Alexander Prezioso.
Born Oct. 30, 1930, in Rutherford, N.J., he was the son of the late Irvine R.O. Mathews and Beula Hayden Mathews.
He was predeceased by his brother George Duncan Mathews.
He was a member of the Moorings Club of Vero Beach, the Field Club of Greenwich, Conn., the Williams Club of New York City and the Bald Peak Colony Club of Melvin Village, N.H.
He was a graduate of the Choate School (’49) and Rutgers University (’53).
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 5 at 11 a.m. at the Round Hill Community Church, 395 Round Hill Road, Greenwich Conn.
