SEBASTIAN — The General Federation of Women’s Clubs’ Sebastian Woman’s Club hosted the second of its semi-annual card parties on Dec. 6 at the Sara Wentworth Rose Clubhouse.
This year’s “Candy Cane Games” provided tables for foursomes of bridge, large and small dominoes groups, and other card games. Forty-four men and women enjoyed the friendly competition and luncheon, which included the ladies’ now-signature dessert table.
A break in the games was spent drawing tickets for door prizes and basket raffles. The raffle baskets assembled by individual club members have become more elaborate each year and were joined at this event by a silent jewelry auction.
The event raised over $900 which will be used to continue the club’s support of many charities and activities in the community. The Sebastian Woman’s Club provides financial and hands-on help to several organizations, including scholarships for Sebastian River Senior High School, the Sebastian Senior Center, Sew Much Comfort, Humane Society of Vero Beach and Indian River County, the international agency Operation Smile, and many more.
“The work of the generous ladies in our club and the community’s support of our efforts proved to be well worth every minute spent at fundraising this year. Our little club makes a difference in the lives of some and gives a small measure of satisfaction to our volunteers personally. Sometimes, it just feels good to know we helped out,” explained Bev Bell, second vice president and fundraising chairperson.
“Candy Cane Games” was the culmination of the club’s 2012 fundraising schedule. It proved to be the club’s most successful year.
