John A. Holt, 92, died Dec. 28, 2012, at Indian River Medical Center, Vero Beach.
He was born in Huntington, W.Va., and lived in Vero Beach.
As an American Baptist pastor, he served in West Virginia; Washington, D.C.; Maryland; and New Jersey.
He served in the Navy as a lieutenant and was commanding officer of a small ship for two years in the South Pacific.
He graduated from Marshall University, Huntington, and also from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky.
He was a published author of “The Seven Words,” “Sermons for Special Sundays” and Dialogue at Calvary.”
He also worked with the Literary Council for 12 years.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Ann Holt, of Vero Beach.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Dec. 31 at Indian River Estates East.
